Let me first say that I am not a fan of strollers. It isn’t that I don’t think they are convenient, I just really dislike the amount of space strollers take up in public. So for me to recommend a stroller it has to be something amazing.
We did a lot of searching for the perfect stroller as we assessed the convenience that it could provide. It needed to be easy to open up and fold back down. It needed to be compact, both for storage and when in use. Of course, it had to look good and lastly it needed to be versatile.
We finally found that the Quinny Zapp Xtra fit all of our needs. We actually received this just in time for a trip that Lindsay and Juniper took to Portland and we were able to fit the stroller into a checked bag!
Let’s look at each criterion from above and explain how this stroller fulfills the desire.
Easy to open up and fold back down
From closed to ready to roll, all you have to do is unclip the strap and unfold. All of the joints will lock into place and you’ll be ready to go in seconds. When it comes to collapsing this back down there are a few easy to find buttons that quickly and easily release the locked joints.
As I mentioned before, this fit into our largest suitcase and we still had room for clothes. This is great for storing in the trunk of the car or in a coat closet in the house. Even when the stroller is in use the size is perfect, even for me. Since I hate being in the way of others the size of this stroller allows us to inconspicuously move about.
It reminds me of the size of an umbrella stroller with the functionality of a full-size one.
This criterion is the most subjective and I am sure many readers question the merit in this. But for me, as a designer, aesthetics mean a lot. Quinny is a European brand and as such simply has superior design sensibility than almost any US product. The lines and materials chosen for every aspect of this stroller are meticulously considered and I can tell!
The frivolous extras are excluded and even the branding elements are considered in their placement and application. The fabric, metal, and plastic are all used in appropriate ways that add to the style rather than distract.
At first glance, you may think this is just a fancy umbrella stroller but the seat actually has 3 forward and 2 backward positions. You can also get an adaptor to hook on a car seat. This versatility you probably expect from a stroller though. But what about wheels that come off for cleaning or replacing? Or an adjustable footrest to adjust to your child’s height? Or an optional cup holder for mom or dad? All of these options absolutely sold us on the investment in this stroller.
While this stroller isn’t for everyone we have fallen in love with it, even as non-stroller people. If you are in the market for a stroller that will grow with you without being bulky, this is a great option you should consider.
